During the 2022 Women, Life, Freedom movement in Iran, countless individuals were imprisoned, tortured, and killed in the struggle for justice. As a member of the Iranian diaspora and a filmmaker, I felt a deep responsibility to amplify these voices, especially those of figures like the prisoners of Evin, including my friend Neda. After hearing her firsthand account of the tragic night of the fire in Evin Prison, I was compelled to share her story with the world.
Given the dangers posed by the repressive regime, creating a traditional documentary was impossible. Instead, I chose documentary animation to creatively and safely depict these experiences. My aim is to foster empathy and inspire both the Iranian diaspora and the international community to recognize the sacrifices made for freedom and human rights. Through this film, I hope to galvanize support and encourage action towards a more just and free society.
